Twas the night before....

We were busy working on a surprise today and are excited to bring it home tomorrow!

Tomorrow I can wear Christmas clothing to carolling if I would like.

Learning new Math Games

Connecting the Past and the Present

We enjoyed our first round of carolling in the Gym this morning. Some of us sang new carols and Christmas songs that we didn't know. Tomorrow we will be carolling at 2:45pm. Parents are welcome to join.

We continue talking about being a historian. Today we looked and compared various objects from the past and the present. What is the same? What is different? Many of us enjoyed looking at old pictures of objects like telephones and grammaphones!

Today was our third Follow Your Passion Fridays. We would like to share what we learned:

Building our Toolbox

Becoming a Historian....

3 Things We Learned Today
1. 'In Math we learned how to make a number line. It was the longest number line we've ever spent our glue on" O.S.

What is the Food Bank for?

Today we pretended to have a meal at school. We had to draw our favorite meal on a plate. However, in each group there was one person with a cup of dirty water and they were not allowed to draw their favorite meal on their plate. Why?  Because when that happens in the real world we wanted the people with the dirty water to feel what it felt like. We learned we can help these people through the Food Bank. We brainstormed some items that we can bring to our school because we have 3 boxes to fill! Some items that would be good to bring are:
- pumpkin seeds
-cereal
-soup
-crackers
-macaroni
-pickles
-ketchup
These are only SOME of the things we can bring. We are collecting food for the food bank until December 17th. We can bring items to school each day.

Why did the water move?

3 Things We Learned:
1. In Math we got a math popcorn problem" D.G.
2. "In Science we learned why the water went up the straw in the bottle. Because the water molecules started spinning around really fast and some of it was trapped in the straw and it went up because they got hot" D.T.
3. In Reader's Workshop we have been practicing one of our Take Action strategies. It is called Chunky Monkey" K.M.

Reminders:
1. Cookie dough orders are going home today. If your child did not come home with their order, then you can pick it up from the school until 5:30pm tonight.
2. No school Friday.
3. Field trip forms due back tomorrow.

Developing Scientific Theories

4 Things We Learned Today:
1. "In Inquiry we did tapigami and we learned how to makes boxes and tubes. " L.S.
2. "In Science we were looking at what happens if we put our warm hands around a bottle with water inside" M.S. ("and it was that the water goes up the straw" N.G.)
3. "In Gym we learned how to play Rattle Tag" D.G.
4. " In Inquiry we learned how to make a full rocket ship with tapigami" D.T.

Tomorrow we will discuss why the water went up the straw. We have many theories as to the reasons why! We will need to figure out the right one.

1. On Thursday we are having a special STEM night at school that begins at 6:00pm.
2. No school on Friday because it is a Professional Development Day for teachers.
3. Please return field study forms for the Glenbow Museum.

Learning Tapigami

Today we finished designing our creations to help with a basic need in 3018. We practiced building different shapes and objects using the technique of tapigami. Tomorrow we will be ready to begin building our creations based on what we made today using tapigami.

Our field study letters went home today for the Glenbow Museum next Wednesday, December 12th. Please complete and return by Friday.

Our STEM night is this Thursday at 6pm! Bring the family for a whole lot of fun!
