Happy 100th Day of School!

We had a great time celebrating the 100th Day of School today in Room 2. It started by taking ourselves back to the year 1919, and some of us really looked the part! It started off by creating a glyph for the 100th day. Do you know what a glyph is?
Then we worked on 'spelling'. We had to come up with as many different words as possible from ONE HUNDRED.
Next we learned that if we wanted to get food in 1919 we couldn't go to Superstore or Sobeys. Instead, it came from the garden or we had to make it! Today we learned how to make butter. We poured some cream in a mason jar and began to shake, shake, shake the jar....until...it broke. :( I guess we'll have to try again another day!

3 Things We learned Today:
1. "In Inquiry we learned how they used to make butter in the olden days." S.C.
2. " In Word Work I learned how to make different words from the word ONE HUNDRED." H.A.
3. "In choir I learned a new song called I Hear the Windmill." M.M.

Reminders:
1. Book orders due back no later than Thursday, February 28th.

A Visit from Iqaluit

Today we had Mr. Matt come and visit our classroom. He works at the Arctic Institute of North America. He taught us all about life in the Arctic! We even played a seal racing game where we had to race across the classroom pretending we were seals. It was hard because we couldn't use our legs
We enjoyed delivering our Valentines. Your child came home with some treats from their friends. We did not eat them at school, but instead will let you choose when and if to enjoy them.
Lastly, Mr. Garcia took small groups of students to go and learn how our school is heated. We got to peek into the Boiler Room and the Fan Room. Many of us thought they school was heated through the insulation or the vents. We were surprised to learn that there is a very large boiler in the school

Introducing our Pen Pals!

Today we were super excited to receive a big package from our Pen-Pals in San Antonio, Texas. We opened the large envelope to find individual letters for each of us. We were so excited to read them and learn a little bit about our new pen pal. We began a discussion about some of the same things between us, and some differences. Your child should have come home today with their letter to share with you. This expands and deepens our connections we are making between different Canadian communities.

Tomorrow is going to be an exciting day as we celebrate our friendships through a small Valentine's Day exchange. Students are encouraged to bring Valentine's if they choose. Please see the class letter that was sent home last week for a list of student names. Just a reminder to please have a Valentine for everyone in our room.

Reminders:
1. Science Journals go home tomorrow! You child will come home tomorrow ready to share how to use their journals at home and expand on their learning with you!
2. Please return Winter Fee sheets and report card envelopes.
