Learning about Waterproofing!

Room 2 has a problem that we are all working on getting better at.  The problem we are working on is 'First Time Listening'. Many of us are needing 4, 5 or even more reminders to do something. Many of us are struggling to show evidence of our learning because we don't know what to do. We are going to work on problem solving how to be better listeners in class and at school.

3 Things We Learned About:
1. "In Science we had feathers and we also had a partner with a cup full of water. We had 2 feathers. One of the feathers had vaseline on. With the vaseline on, the feather will be waterproof." E.A.
2. " In Gym we did Mission Impossible. Something I learned was that to be a spy you have to be really quiet and you can't touch things." D.T.
3. "In Music we learned a new game that came with a song. We had hearts and we had to give them to someone and they had guess who gave the heart to them." A.H.

Tonight's Homework Challenge:
We are wondering what the difference between water-resistant and waterproof?

Reminders:
1. No school on Friday.
2.We will be celebrating Valentine's Day on Wednesday, February 12th. If you would like to send out Valentine's, please ensure there are enough for everyone in the class.  A class list will be coming home next week.
3. Report Cards are available online on Thursday, January 30th.

How Many Pennies Can We Add?

3 Things We Learned Today:
1. "In Science we did an experiment of a jar and boiled water and Borax. We mixed them together to see if we can make snow." V.C.
2. " In Math we were trying to figure out if growing patterns repeat. I learned that growing patterns do repeat and sometimes they can grow by 1." A.C.
3. "In Inquiry we learned how to Grade 2 coding. I thought Grade 2 coding was fun." M.C.

Today were were AMAZED at how many pennies we could add to a glass of water that was nearly full before the water leaked over the side. Ask your child how many pennies we got to before the water spilt over. Now we are wondering why the water made a bubble at the top of the glass just before it spilt.  We will look at this tomorrow.

Reminders:
1. Report cards will be ready to read on Thursday, January 30th.
2. No school on Friday, January 31st.

Pyjama and Stuffie Day!

What a perfect day for Pyjama and Stuffy Day! We all really enjoyed getting to wear our comfy p.j.'s on this cold day!

Each student should have their Science Home Journal in their backpack/Home folder. Today we discussed how we are working on writing, speaking and thinking as a Scientist. This week as we respond to the question regarding the two pairs of pants, I'd encourage you to help your child try to incorporate these points into their responses:
1. Use 'I think....because...."
2. Make connections
-what have I done before at school or home that is like this?
-what do I already know that could I connect to this problem?
3. Incorporate Scientific vocabulary. This week we focused on the words: Viscosity and Evaporation
