'Twas the Night Before....Summer Break!

It's hard to believe that we are writing our final blog posts. How quickly this year has flown by!

We were reflecting on our year today. Here is a very important question that answered:

What was the most important thing you learned this year?
1. "The most important thing I learned to have fun and learn everywhere. For example, in Gym when you learn and have fun in a new game." M.S.
2. "The most important thing I learned
3. "The most important thing I learned was new answers for new Math questions. For example, 26+50=76." L.M.
4. "The most important thing I learned was new animals. For example like bugs and insects and for example on insects is a grasshopper and a bug is a rolly polly." C.S.
5. "The most important thing I learned was in Gym. There was a game called Zoo tag." M.S.
6. "The most important thing I learned in Grade 2 that the Room 2 Soccer Roccer's were a really good soccer team." N.G.

A couple of quick reminders for tomorrow:

1. If you happen to spot your child's iLab bag at home tonight, please send it to school tomorrow. All of their school belongings will be coming home in it.
2. Tomorrow is a half day. Therefore just a snack is needed.
3. Report cards will be coming home tomorrow. Please look in your child's backpack for it when they get home.
4. Staff will be at school on Thursday and Friday if you forget anything or need to talk to a teacher.

Active Living Day

This morning we had our annual Active Living Day. Here's some of our favorite memories from our morning:

1. "Today in Active Learning Day I learned a new game called Noodle Ball. It's where you have two noodles and a ball. You need to have a team of 2 or more. You can't touch the ball with your body or your hands. You have to pick up the ball with a noodle and  walk with it to cones and try not to make it fall." M.S.
2. "In Active Living Day I went to  a station called Drip, Drip, Drop. There was two teams. They both had a sponge. Then someone counts to 3. Then the two people at the front of the line run quickly and squeeze water out of the sponge into a cup and then run back to the front of the line and passes the sponge to them." D.G.
3. "Today in Active Living Day I learned a game and you had to get Kapla blocks and you had to run and go to the pylon and stack the kapla blocks and you had to try and make a tower. Whoever's tower fell down, they lost. If the tower you built stays, you win." C.S.

Reminders:
1.  Bring my iLab bag back to school to use for all my belongings on Wednesday.

Happy Friday!

3 Things We Did Today at Maple Ridge School:
1. "In Science/Build Habitats I learned it was okay to make an arachnid habitat." N.G.
2. "In Science we made our diorama shoebox habitat for our insects and arachnids." J.V.
3. "We put on the legs and antennae on our clay insects. For example  a wasp has antennas and legs obviously." O.S.

Reminders:
1. We are using our iLab bags to bring all of our belongings home in next Wednesday. If your bag is not at school, please look for it at home. If you can't find it, then you need to bring  another larger bag to school next week.

Today was the Last Thursday of Grade 2! 😮

3 Things We Learned Today:
1. "Today we painted our insects with only 6 colors to use. Tomorrow we will put on their legs." K.H.
2. "Today in Music we continued playing a Math Music game. It had 5 rows for different rounds. The first row was M, the second row was U, the third row was S, the forth row was I, and the last row was C." M.C.
3. "In Gym I learned how to play dodgeball and then two teams are on each side and then get the balls and you have to throw it at them. If you hit someone on the head you go out onto the other side. If someone throws the ball to you and you catch it, you are free and you can keep hitting people. If you score a basket when people are on the bench, all of the people come out and they can come and throw again." C.S.

Heritage Park Happiness!

We had a fantastic day at Heritage Park! We were really grateful that the weather turned out to be quite lovely.

3. "The best part of my day was the old houses. When you went inside it looked a little more first class than your original house you have in 2019." D. G.
4. "Me and my group liked we get to go onto the swings. We went slow and then we went fast." J.H.
5. "My favorite part of the day was going to the hospital and going to the railway car shop because you can inside all the trains that were there and it goes in a circle to get to all the trains." S.M.

You can put that number in any of the squares. Each square had a different challenge such as draw your number in a hidden picture." M.C.

Friday Frenzy!

As we get closer to the end of the year, it's seems to be getting busier in Room 2 and routine items like the blog are getting left behind!

We had a lot of fun today with our big buddies in trying to create the Life Cycle of our insect we are researching. It was a challenging, yet fun activity. Many of us learned new skills in coding and the importance of giving/producing the right set of directions.

Reminder: We are in need of empty shoeboxes for next week. If you have any extras lying around, please send to school to build our insect habitats.

Enjoy your weekend!

We Need Your Help!

We are creating diorama's of our insect's habitats. In order to do this, we need to collect empty shoeboxes. Please bring in empty shoeboxes over the next couple of days as we will begin building next week.

Tomorrow we are doing a coding challenge with our buddies. We will be using the program called Scratch Jr. If you have time tonight to practice on Scratch Jr. and explore that would be very helpful for tomorrow. If you can't get onto Scratch Jr. tonight, that is okay.

The Great Square Challenge!

Today we had the Math challenge of how many squares can you make by overlapping 3 squares of the same size. Through this we learned the difference between a square and a rectangle.

I wonder how many squares you can make by overlapping 4 squares of the same size?

3 Things We Learned Today:
1. “In Math we had a challenge because we had to make the greatest number of squares. We had to use 3 squares that were the same size.” M.M.

A Positively Perfect Day At Pearce Estates Park

3 Things We Learned Today at Pearce Estates Park:
1. "At Pearce Estates I learned that there were water striders at the Park." N.G.
2. "At Pearce Estates Park I learned what a worm's eye view is. We painted trees as a worm would see." S.M
3. "With Ms. Brandley we did a hunt for bugs and if you saw a bug in the tree, sky or ground and marked it off in one of the boxes. We then had to put down what we got the most off." D.G.

Unfortunately on our way home, our bus driver had to pull the bus over because of student misbehavior. We know that we have two little 'p' problems that led to our big 'P' problem today on the bus. As of right now Room 2 and Room 3 need to earn their trip to Heritage Park on June 19th back.

Starting today, Pokemon cards are NO LONGER 🚫 allowed at school. They are causing many problems, including the misbehaviour on the bus. If students are found to have Pokemon cards in their backpack or pockets, they will be given to Mr. Emery and a parent will be called to come and get them back.

There is also a 'game' being played in Room 2 which is hurting feelings of some of our classmates. We had a talk today that this is not a good game to play and it is now stopped.

Reminders:
1. Science Home Journals due Friday!
2.Fun snack on Friday.
